Partner with us

After hearing an account of the spiritual needs of India, the secretary of the meeting remarked: “There is a gold mine in India, but its seems almost as deep as the center of the earth. Who will venture to explore it?” “I will venture to go down,” said William Carey, “but remember that you must hold the ropes.”

This quote is great. Fellow missionary William Carey got it right, his partners hold the ropes. He wasn’t able to do it alone. The same is true for us, we can’t do it without people like you on our team. Lets face it, it takes money to fulfill the Great Commission.

“So you’re not paid?” Yep… that’s right, not a dime. No one in Youth With a Mission is, not even the founder! And yet, it is the one of the largest missions organizations in the world: in over 180 countries with over 18,000 staff all who rely on God’s provision and a team of people behind them.

The Bible teaches we are all to be a part of missions. Maybe living in Africa is not your calling. That’s ok. We believe it is ours. God has called us to go, lay down other careers, and give our lives day in and day out here. Others are called to pray or financially partner. We have people that give anywhere from $4 month to alot more. It’s a wide variety and all of it adds up!

Would you prayerfully consider investing in the long-term work of missions in South Africa with us?

Should your answer be yes, thank you for your investment. It leaves us humbled and with a great sense of responsibility.

Questions on giving

What does my donation go towards?

All donations go towards our personal living expenses and ministry expenses in South Africa. In addition to our family needs, we also financially partner monthly with 6 other African missionary families. We aim to give generously when we see need and be able to travel throughout in the continent to teach.

How do you handle money? Do you follow any principles or values?

We believe the Bible has alot to say about money and how we handle it is critical to our life & ministry. We’ve been highly influenced by the teachings of Dave Ramsey and highly recommend his books and podcasts.

Here are financial values for our life & ministry:
  • Debt Free: If we can’t do it cash, we don’t do it.
  • No loaning money: If we can’t give it away, we don’t want to ruin relationships.
  • Save & Invest: Planning for the future as good stewardship with what God provides now.
  • Give generously: We bless others, often anonymously.
  • Live simply: Not a poverty mentality. A modest approach to life lived around the poor.

Does YWAM Montana keep a portion of the money?

No, they charge us $1.50 for processing/postage, which is a bargain. We are global partners with them, therefore they bless us with all the leg work of our donation processing.

How exactly do you get the money?

The money is deposited into an account in the US and we access it with our debit card overseas.

Can I set up monthly giving with YWAM Montana?

Yes, monthly Automatic Bank drafts can be set up easily. Call them directly: 406.844.2223 or email us. If you like online bill payment with your bank, you can also set up monthly deductions that way too.

Do you do anything that generates income on the side?

Yes, alot like Paul we have our tent-making, if you will. However, our priority is missions. On the side, we run Jirah Typesetting, a company in which we do freelance typesetting and design of books. If you are publishing a book or know the right people in a publishing house, please get in touch with us. We’d be happy to present our portfolio of work. Primarily we work with Spanish material, but can also offer English and Afrikaans services.

Is it cheap to live in South Africa?

Some things are cheaper than America, like housing and entertainment. However, alot of things are much more expensive than you would imagine. For instance, gas is about $6 a gallon. Milk is $3.85 a gallon. Electricity has almost tripled since we moved here. Telecommunications costs (internet & phone) are some of the highest in the world. Add to that a weaken dollar, which is the majority of our income, means we no, it is not “cheap” like you would think to live in South Africa.

Do you teach about money?

Yes, this is a hot relevant topic. Here’s two posts where we show what’s its like to teach about money in South Africa (here & here).

Any creative or practical ideas instead of money?

Yes! Here are some ideas:

We can save hundreds by using airline miles for flights. If you would like to donate any, please get in touch with us. We can do the legwork with the airlines.

Its rare day to get mail and practically a holiday when we get something from home. If you would like to send your Christmas card, letter, postcard, or even a care package, get in touch with here us for our address. We don’t post it online for safety reasons. Care package ideas: American brown sugar, reese’s peanut butter cups, tide pens, tasty decaffeinated coffee (Marysol gets headaches from caffeine), photos. Anything! Surprise us.

If you are a current partner, could you help us recruit a new one? You wouldn’t believe how people have invested in this ministry by opening doors for us. Send this website to someone or put us in touch with the right people. When we visit the USA, we would love to speak anywhere that would like to hear about missions: schools, churches, Bible study groups, etc. We promise it won’t be boring.

These are random ways people have or continue to bless us. Maybe God will use it will spark an idea:

    • A business prints all our newsletters for free
    • Someone bought all our kids current shoes & swimwear
    • Cottonbabies.com gave us our whole start up supply of cloth diapers
    • Starbucks gift cards when we are in town to be able to take people out for coffee
    • Gift cards so we can go on a proper American date when we are in town
    • An unused week at a time share so our family could get a vacation at no cost
