Photo Day in the Life: Friday

Our Day in the Life Photo series continues. We took our camera along yesterday. Is this day typical? No, but that’s what makes everyday interesting. During this day we were busy with the task of running the training portion of Titus Project, so its a more classroom-heavy day.

7:00 am – Wake up, start the day. We are not generally the get of out bed at 5 am types. No thank you.

8:30 am – Arrive at the YWAM base, quick meeting with staff before class. Then De Wet starts teaching. See above photo. He teaching our students how to simplify Inductive Bible study through a book of the Bible for a village or less educated audience.

Mid-morning. During class breaks I get various things done. Our teams leave in exactly one week, so there are alot of logistics to work out with our staff. Pictured below: Olivier

1:00 pm – Done with class, De Wet checks in with another staff member, Nicky, about a financial issue for the school. Notice his backpack is on, a clear sign that he is eager to get home for food!

1:15 pm – Home for lunch. De Wet stares down a growing pile of dishes and needs to walk away for now. Don’t look at me!

He offers to make us a quick lunch of PB & J. We are keeping it simple since we are in desperate need of getting to the grocery store at this point. We share alot of food prep responsibilities. He is more of a lunch-prep person, I tackle dinners.

During lunch, I catch up on emails and administrative tasks for the school. I might have even see what people are up to on facebook as most of America is waking up around now. (Oh, and some photos are now up on that wall, and some frames are still empty!)

2:05 pm – Back to class for a workshop where we assign practice teachings for our students so they have material prepared for when they go out to teach for the next few months. I lead this session.

3:40 pm – Now they break up into groups and get planning. They have only a few days to prepare. De Wet and our other staff sit in each group and help facilitate this time. By the way, we are really proud of the stellar group we have!

4:30 pm – Class is over. I run over to Afrikaans lessons. Making the teacher-to-student switch in my brain. I always feel I’ve done mental gymnastics after these lessons!

Meanwhile De Wet is back home helping our staff, Olivier set up a Skype account so he can call his family in West Africa and use off line email to save money. This is part of the practical side of empowering more African missionaries.

6:30 pm - I arrive home. Realize Olivier is seeing the mountain of dishes & house in disarray and decide to let it go :) De Wet drives him home since its dark out and not safe for anyone to be walking alone even though his he is over 6 feet tall.

7:00 pm – Spontaneous get together with our friends James & Sarah at their place. They are our neighbors, co-workers, and the only people here who were at our wedding. We love them. They offered pizza & good conversation. How can we turn that down? Nice relaxing end to a busy wonderful day!

PS: The dishes are still there as this post is being written. Just keeping it real…
