In 2006, I celebrated my first easter in South Africa and it was one of those days I fondly remember. Who knew I’d end up moving there?
Lets take a little photo trip down memory lane, shall we…
There was a lot of dancing. God bless you Africa for teaching me to get my groove on and not be ashamed.
By alot of dancing, I mean just about everybody. Can worship be more fun? I think not.
And of course after the service… FOOD! Mama’s made lots of it!
Right there where we just had the service. It was all so warm, festive, and celebratory.
The last day we were in South Africa before this trip a woman asked me, “So you will be gone for Easter? How sad. Do they celebrate Easter over there in your country?”
I answered, “Oh yes, in fact almost all Christians around the world do, no matter what country they are in!”
This surprised her. She went on to ask lots of questions about what specifically is eaten on that day, as if that would disqualify or qualify the celebration.
At the end of this long discussion I thought to myself, it wasn’t so long ago that I too learned about how another country celebrates…
Happy Easter, ya’ll (in my sweetest Southern accent)
